Makeup Etiquette

As a makeup artist, you are the representative for your business therefore you should appear and act in a certain way. A makeup artist should practise good hygiene skills and have clean hair and nails. The clothes should also be clean and shoes should be either flat or with a small heel.

It is important to be tidy, not only in the way you dress but in the way you work. The makeup set up is a reflection of you as an artist and if it is messy, clients may be less inclined to work with you. Mints should be carried in your kit, especially if you are a smoker and hands should also be washed thoroughly after you have held a cigarette. Hands should be washed before the makeup goes ahead and sanitizer throughout.

It is important as an artist to not involve yourself in idle gossip or to talk about others in an unprofessional way, both to clients and colleagues. Being considerate to the clients needs is essential at all times and the artist should show good body language as well as being polite and courteous, regardless of how the client speaks to you.

All of these things should be taken into consideration when working in the makeup industry and following these rules will ensure a happy client.
